"Our goal is to give people with various types of disabilities the happiness and the smile to enjoy the marine environment and experience the wonderful feeling of gliding over the waves. Just as has been happening for some time now in much of Europe and the world "

These are the words used by Andrea Alari, founder of SurForAll, to describe the purpose of the initiative in a few lines. Adaptive surfing is a mode of surfing designed for people with disabilities. It involves the use of specialised equipment and techniques to allow people with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities to be able to practice this sport in a safe and fun way. The aim is to make surfing accessible to all, regardless of their abilities, and to promote inclusion and physical activity for all individuals.

The benefits of adaptive surfing are many, both for the people who practice it and for the surfing community at large. For adaptive surfers, the sport offers a sense of freedom, physical activity and a new way of experiencing the ocean. It helps build confidence, strength and independence and can be a great way to meet new people and make new friends. For the surfing community at large, adaptive surfing helps to break down barriers and promote a more open and inclusive culture: by enabling people with disabilities to participate in the sport, it helps to challenge entrenched prejudices and stereotypes and provide new opportunities for outdoor physical activity.

Adaptive surfing is still in its infancy, but is rapidly gaining popularity and recognition as a valuable and very useful activity in every respect. With the help of volunteers and organisations such as SurfForAll, adaptive surfers are getting the support they need to be able to go out on the water and enjoy the thrill of the waves to the full. And as the sport continues to grow, it is likely that even more people with disabilities will have the opportunity to experience the joys and benefits associated with this practice.
